Moodboard and Digi Pack

Moodboard demonstrating that Two Door Cinema Club are shown as equals as they are all in the same line. However Noah and the Whale have different levels, which shows the leads in the band. All expect the top left photo have enhancing effects over the top of them.

This is a moodboard for the banners on the websites of similar bands. The Two Door cinema club banner has a music video instead of a still picture. This may entice the audience as it is eyecatching. The banners vary in length. The band title is made so it stands out to the audience. I always thought that banners would contain  the band as a group, however from this research it shows how the band want to come across and come contain their digi pack album cover pictures.

Shot List

This is a shot list that we created that acts as both a checklist and a reminder about which shots we are filming in which locations, (a list that is a very important part of our production to ensure we produce the best music video we can achieve).

Call Sheets

here is my design for our call sheets on the days we go out to begin shooting these will be filled out and will be used to determine which scenes we are shooting, which cast will be present, what set is needed, props and makeup, etc the call sheet will also be used as documentation to show our music video producers and the band themselves so they are aware of what is happening with there production.

Production Schedule

To be able to keep on time with the filming for our project, we have made a production schedule. This is to help us have an idea of how much time we have allocated ourselves to do each step of the filming within that day. When referring to the production schedule it will give me a prompt to what shots will be taken place and if anything goes wrong, we can also refer back to our storyboard for guidance.

The dates we plan to film on are:

Creating a storyboard helps to put the shots into perspective and see what the film will look like once its shot. It also will help when filming to remind us of what shots we need

Institutions, Marketing & Campaign Strategy

Task 1: From researching into the different marketing methods which are used by bands/artists today, I added some of my own ideas in the pink boxes and analysed all of the methods into three different categories. Which ones were most desirable, most expensive or most lucrative, some of the methods fell into more than one of these categories. For example, I decided Tours were most lucrative because more people want to actually go and see the band, rather than buying their CD which most people download illegally so do not wish to spend money on buying a CD.

Task 2: -Collage, screen shots with annotations
Identify how last years students music video, Digipack and Websites have a consistent style and unified purpose:
-Themes
-Image
-Visual Style (colour, Fonts, Effects, Iconography)
-Mode of addresses to appeal to the target audience

As the audience I am able to see a clear theme running through all 3 productions as the narrative is something that the audience can easily relate to and this was relationship problems. The clothing relates to the indie/pop style in which they were aiming for their target audience as they used a lot of common conventions.

The digi pack and website both contains consistent use of autumn colours and gave a sense of a vintage look, the collage shows this clearly. There are a lot of dark mellow colours used in the music video to show negative emotions in the narrative  Also these colours were shown in the sky in the digi pack and the filming of the main artist is done with a soft effect and when the light shines on her to give a silhouette and create a sense of being hyper-real, for the target audience to look up to the artist. The font used is creative and abstract. The colours tend to come across slightly faded for the overall visual style.

Task 3: Our mood Boards for visual style

Anamatic

We created an anamatic to help us to see what our video will look like before we go out and shoot it so we can change the shots if we do not think it looks right.

Final Pitch

Mood Board for your concept & image

The mood-board shows the setting, themes, characters and aspects of hyper reality in which we plan to include into our music video. Our theme is based around the cinematic style our video will represent. We have chosen images for the mood-board that will be in our music video, such as the playground, train station platform and London pictures show the settings in which we are thinking of using. It shows 'heartbreak' which is the concept for our music video with the boy with his head in his hands and the young girl crying to emphaise this. The couple on the floor show the relationship between our two main characters. The man singer solo shows the lead male performing as his will in our video and this creates a cinematic theme. The shoes on the old fashioned radio show the style in which our band will show.

Target Audience - Artists Social Networking sites 'Friends & Likes'

We conducted research into the social following of partyclub by looking at social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter in order to gain an understanding in the size audience and following they have (which would show us if the band is very well known or is a new coming band) below are the photo's we have found showing the bands social following.

Target Audience

This is a collage to show the age, gender, sub-culture of our target audience. Our target audience will mainly have a 'indie' and 'vintage smart' style. This is presented through the clothes in which they are wearing. It shows what sort of people they are such as listening to gigs and enjoy riding their bikes. There is a couple on the bottom left to show our audience that will watch our music video will be able to relate to the video the most.

E-Mail to copyright holder

Before we could begin working with our selected track we had to email PartyClub for the permission to use there track (which they heartily agreed to) below is some evidence of the email conversation we had with the band.

References and Inspirations; Promotional campaign of professional artist

These are various similar artist's digi packs in which we have researched into. We chose to use these certain ones because they are relating to our image we want and have the 'Indie' style we plan to use for our band. Our favorite is 'The Drums' this is because of the bold title and you are able to see the band in a setting which is interesting and eye-catching because it is bright.

We also looked at different websites of similar artists to us and analysed these.

This website is good because it has clear information and is clear to see because it is quite plain but effective. I like the idea of the colourful photo page, this grabs the audience attention.

I think it is a good idea to have a re-occurring theme throughout the website as it creates a professional look. The colours which are used for the background are also bright and aesthetically pleasing.

The style of the website presents a sophisticated feel. The website is very clear and easy to navigate around. The tape part of the website is a good feature as it entices people to then listen to their music in a different way.

Over the summer there were some big festivals that bands were performing at which also promotes them and gets them noticed to their fans. It is a chance to see the bands perform live. Similar artists to our band played here such as The Killers.

Artists such as Friendly Fires are similar to our artist.

Reading Festival would be the place were most of the similar artists to our band would perform as it contains more of that genre.

These posters are made eye-catching to attract peoples attention.

Final Idea Brainstorm

We created a final brainstorm for our ideas to lay out exactly what we plan to do. This helped us with our pitch. The concept of the video is heartbreak which is something that can be easily related to by our target audience. The video follows a boy meets girl scenario that begins with the two main characters being in a playground (which link in with the lyrics throughout and will will use younger kids in a playground.) This is done in a vintage style as it reflects as a memory. The boy meets the girl in this part and tries to be friendly with the girl but she is annoyed and distant in return; causing the boy to be sad, the video then ends as the chorus comes in creating a new scenario. In the chorus it shows the boy and girl in a young adult age through having lots of different shaped and sized mirrors or having something in the mirror starring back at the man. As the videos cuts to the happiness, it shows the boy working in a bar and talking to a group of girls and he realises that one of the girls is the girl he used to know and the girl of his dreams (which reunites the two and also has a intertextual reference to Slumdog millionaire.)

They then go on four dates during the chorus in different settings, however the last one ends bad and they start to argue. He goes back to the bar where they recently met again and becomes depressed and there is a close up of a whiskey bottle. Every girl he sees go into the bar he begins to hallucinate into thinking every girl is 'his girl' which makes it hyper-real. When it goes to the chorus again, there is a split screen of the two in different locations in London. He meets his band and goes to preform on stage. He wants to perform the song he has wrote about the girl. He then sees her in the crowd with another boy. Then shot then cuts to his eye-line and the girl smirks and leaves the gig and shuts the door. It is a romantic genre of music video.

These are brainstorms from other people in our group to help us out with what ideas to chose for our final brainstorm.

Lyrics Analysis/Lyrics Timecode

As a group, me and Max analysed the lyrics to come up with a understanding of the song as well as a concept for the music video idea.
We listened to the song on YouTube a couple of times to be able to get a better understanding of the lyrics and what the song means/ represents. We firstly looked at the chorus and decided they think its best to live your life and not be upset/ depressed about anything. We decided that the first verse the lead is happy about life and wants to get to know new girls and talk to them. The second verse he is then heartbroken by girls but feels he has learnt alot and that was his aim in the first verse.

We noticed the chorus 'Happiness is to be young and free' is repeated 4 times over when it is sang. This makes the song personal and it emphises the lyrics and the audience is able to easily relate to it. We thought of adding a hyperreality aspect into the song when it says 'mirror mirror' and also when he is depressed he starts to see every girl that looks like the one he loved. We have mainly made the narrative section of the song around the story within the lyrics and also incorporated some performance in with the narrative.
We concluded that the artist of the song may be expressing his relationship through the performance of the song as he wrote the song about her in the narrative, it also shows how it reflects him as a person as he is expressive and heartbroken.
